Tiger Tracks Gravel 2026
What a massive weekend of gravel racing and riding! Three race events, a participation challenge, and a skills ride brought together by a champion team of 35+ volunteers, supported by the tiny community of Jalbarragup.
The weather gods finally smiled on us, providing 5mm of rain in the week leading in and then mid-20 degree sunny days for event weekend - perfect conditions for gravel riding. Record fields in 2026 too, with 92 riders registered for Saturday, and 182 for Sunday, nearly hitting our 200 cap.
4Five+ AC were very proud to host the inaugural AusCycling WA Gravel State Championships for U13, U15 and U17 riders on the Saturday morning before the Tiger Tracks events. It was exciting to see the 21 juniors marshal on the Crouch Rd bridge, ready to go off in age group waves. The U13s raced an 11km route which took in a small section of the afternoon TT course, and yes these Tiger Cubs also had to make it up the infamous Crouch kick to finish, giving their chaperones a taste of what was to come for them in the afternoon. The U15 and U17 juniors raced the reverse of some of the Sunday Groad course, 30km and 50km respectively. U15M Oscar Barratt had a decisive victory completing the course in under an hour, while U17M Jai Roughton and Danny Barton battled it out for the top step in a sprint. It was great to see a full podium for the U15W with Katlyn Death finishing with a clear win, and U17W Alayla Schmid taking out the top step in her race.
The Twilight Tiger Time Trial was a revelation. Starting at 3pm, the 71 starters were able to enjoy the cooler temperature and dappled light playing in the leaves of the mighty jarrah and karri trees. OK. Maybe they didn’t enjoy the scenery as much as the spectators, but it was a great time of day to race and a perfect finish time for post-race sundowners. Bruno Rebello was the fastest of the elite men with an eye-watering 26:54 over the sometimes techy 15km course, and Dimity-Lee Duke was the fastest woman on course at 31:10.
The Sunday Groad Race was the most popular event across the weekend and attracted 156 registrations. In the social space, 21 riders opted for the Little Tiger Challenge, and another 6 for the free Southwest Skills & Ride session. A new start location in 2026 meant fewer corrugations on Jalbarragup Rd, less passing traffic, and a slightly gentler hill to kick off. Racers were briefed: the men’s and women’s races were separate and should not mix at the pointy end. It was a day for the breakaway, with select bunches forming for both men’s and women’s elite categories. Standing on course watching riders come through for lap 2, most seemed to have found a few friends with many groups coming through in groups of 4-10 riders.
It was a close fought battle for the elite categories. Sam Davis, Ethan Branchi and Austin Webb took out 1-2-3 in the men’s category with just 13 seconds between them, while there was a sprint finish for the three female podium spots with Anny Kidd taking the top step, followed by Serene Lee and Dimity-Lee Duke.
Of course 4Five+ AC were very excited to see our own members stepping onto Masters podiums across both days. Congratulations to Yael Gardner, Tracey Chapman, Rebecca Kelly, Sue Broughton, Deb Latouf, and Helen Keogh!!
One of the highlights of the weekend was the enthusiasm shown by the junior racers. A new phenomenon has been created by them - the Triple Tiger! Many U17s signed up for three events - their Championship and the Time Trial on Saturday, and the Big Tiger on Sunday. Distance restrictions for juniors made it trickier for other age groups, but several U15s did both their Championship race and the Little Tiger Challenge. Some of the U13s joined in for the skills & ride session & brought Mum along too!
4Five+ AC acknowledges the outstanding efforts of three junior riders with special recognition awards.
Junior Tiger Tenacity Award - Danny Barton U17. Danny gained 2nd place in three events across the weekend, competing against J19 racers in the TT and Big Tiger Groad races. We greatly admired his enthusiasm and perseverance, taking on the Triple Tiger, competing fiercely against riders in older age categories and finishing with excellent results.
U15 Kudos Award - Oscar Barratt and Kaitlyn Death. Oscar & Kaitlyn won their Championship category on Saturday and were the first U15s to finish the Little Tiger Challenge - in fact Oscar was the first Little Tiger back at the finish line (strava says 1h33m for the 45km). 4Five+ AC acknowledges the top performances of these young athletes and looks forward to watching them grow and develop in the sport.
